The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s New York Pictures Collections

Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection consist of close to 3 million paintings, sculptures, and other works of art from around the world. The Metropolitan Museum of Art attracts some five million people a year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art an art museum on the eastern edge of Central Park, along "Museum Mile" in New York, New York, in the United States. The complex of buildings at its present location in Central Park opened in 1880. The main building facing Fifth Avenue, designed by William Morris Hunt, was completed in 1902. McKim, Mead and White designed certain later additions. The American section, added in 1924, included the 1823 marble facade saved from the demolished U.S. Branch Bank on Wall Street. The main building, often called "the Met", is one of the world's largest art galleries. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 by a group of American citizens.
